Our second speaker was one of our voices (women who speak up against older Motherhood stigmatization ), Mrs Monika, who spoke to us about the challenges she went through trying to get pregnant.
This was at our anniversary WhatsApp hangout on the 22nd of March, 2020.
She explained that children are a gift from God and as such, they require our utmost time, energy and affection. Not forgetting prayers.
She made us understand that it takes a lot, emotionally and physically to have a baby so we should not just want a baby for baby sake but be mentally and emotionally ready.
Monika Onyedikachi aka Monyhony, Lead Relationship Enabler of Monyhony Relationship Enablers, is a certified matchmaker and traditional pairing Enabler. She is married with 2 beautiful children however, for the first 7 years of her marriage she struggled with pregnancy and miscarriages.
‘I couldn’t get pregnant due to medical situation… My whole inside was squeezed and I went through a lot of surgeries for 4 years and was told I will never be able to get pregnant and if I am lucky that I do, I won’t deliver through vaginal birth’ – Monika.
She explained about the surgeries which lead her to consider IVF after years of trying and not succeeding. After 2 IVF’s and 2 miscarriages, and even IUI, she still could not conceive.
She had to result to a special diet and her husband did same too for them to conceive and give birth (both natural births). She talked to us about the importance of a good diet enriched with Folic Acid and Vitamin E; this should be medically prescribed and not self-prescribed.
She introduced us to fresh sliced tomatoes and fresh walnut which helps boost sperm count while a lot of dried almonds, soaked in water to remove the skin before eating is recommended for the ladies.
Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant and nutrient found in tomatoes have been known to help enrich sperms plus prevent prostate cancer.
While Walnuts improve sperm health as they reduce lipid peroxidation – a process that damages sperm cells. Walnuts also contain omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid and magnesium, which helps in producing progesterone and increasing blood supply to the uterus, helping fertility hence good for women too.
Almonds have been researched as food that successfully aids in both female and male reproduction no wonder she successfully conceived after.
She reiterates that it is very essential to carry out personal research so as to have meaningful discussions with your doctor about your fertility. Encouraging us to also take and get Fresh yoghurt, not packed ones but Fresh ones gotten from Indian or Lebanese shops.
She was a great help and a source of inspiration to ladies trying for a baby.
