Silent Battles: The Emotional Trauma We Go Through in Motherhood
They say silence is golden. But for many African mothers, silence has become a curse; an invisible cage where pain festers, voices are stifled, and emotional trauma is dressed up as “just part of being a woman.”
On Saturday, June 21, we broke that silence.
At Episode 6 of Moms Round Table, titled “Silent Battles: The Emotional Trauma We Go Through in Motherhood,” we dared to go where many platforms won’t. We gathered five fearless African mothers and a certified mental health coach to share their raw, unfiltered truths – stories of struggle, shame, strength, and survival.
And it was powerful.
From fertility scare to the delivery room trauma. From postpartum depression to the need for support systems. From being the “strong” African woman to being utterly alone. These women didn’t just talk, they freed themselves. They showed us that beneath the headwraps and grace is a battlefield no one sees, but many fight on daily and the need for us to speak out!
💬 One speaker said:
“You can’t be the fixer all the time, sometimes let them fall!”
Let that sink in because we need to let go sometimes and BREATH!
We discussed how African culture often values silence. How motherhood becomes a badge of honour that must be worn without cracks. How trauma is passed down like family heirlooms because nobody is allowed to say, “This hurts.”
But not here. Not at Moms Round Table.
We talked. We laughed. We healed a little. And we reminded each other that we are not alone.
Our certified mental health coach, Funmi Ayowole, dropped practical coping tools like gentle, affirming, culturally sensitive advice that resonated deeply. She reminded us that healing isn’t weakness; it’s rebellion in a culture that tells us to endure.

Missed this one?
Don’t worry, this is a movement, not a moment.
We meet every 3rd Saturday of the month on TikTok Live to talk about the things African women are told to keep quiet about, and we’re just getting started.
Next month? We’re going even deeper.
Because motherhood shouldn’t mean martyrdom. And your silence shouldn’t cost you your sanity.
So, dear African mom, whether you’re carrying trauma you can’t name, or you just want to know you’re not crazy, come chat with us. Chatting might not solve it, but it sure will help start it!
You don’t have to carry it alone anymore.
