In older moms, gestational diabetes can also increase the risk of premature birth, high blood pressure during pregnancy, and complications to your infant after delivery.

The most important thing to get done is a diagnosis, usually, a blood sugar test is done occasionally during pregnancy to check the level of blood sugar. It has been advised to do this before breakfast and one hour after each meal. A healthy diet can not be over-emphasized in pregnancy. It is advisable to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and avoid skipping meals. Your body needs as many nutrients as it can get. Avoid sugary foods and drinks as much as possible.
Exercise, Exercise, and Exercise. Most pregnant women dread the word exercising. It really does not have to be rigorous. Physical activity lowers your blood glucose level, so regular exercise can be an effective way to manage gestational diabetes. There are advisable exercises pregnant women can engage in. Simply taking an evening walk constantly is a form of exercise.
