Meet Serena Williams. our woman crush any day!
Serena Jameka Williams is an American professional tennis player and former world No. 1 in women’s singles tennis. She is wife to Alexis Ohanian and Mom to Olympia.
“I almost died after giving birth to my daughter, Olympia,” said Serena at an Interview with @CNN
‘Yet I consider myself fortunate. While I had a pretty easy pregnancy, my daughter was born by emergency C-section after her heart rate dropped dramatically during contractions. The surgery went smoothly. Before I knew it, Olympia was in my arms. It was the most amazing feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life. But what followed just 24 hours after giving birth were six days of uncertainty” Says Serena Williams.
The tennis star, who has a history of developing blood clots, suffered a pulmonary embolism, meaning blood clots had blocked one or more of the arteries in her lungs just after delivery; she wrote in a CNN opinion piece.
“Intense coughing” caused by the embolism led Williams to rip her C-section wound, and when she went in for surgery, doctors discovered a large hematoma, or swelling of clotted blood, in her abdomen. “When I finally made it home to my family, I had to spend the first six weeks of motherhood in bed,” Williams wrote.
Williams was 35years old when she had her first baby.
As we have noted in some of our articles, C-section is common with older motherhood amongst other complications. This is why it is important to start seeing your doctor early when you are older and expecting, don’t leave anything to chance.
Yep, having a #baby is the most beautiful thing in the world, thanks to Serena for showing the world that women are stronger than they look.
